Extra Information
CYCLONE
Tropical cyclones can occur in this region between about December and April. In the event of a tropical cyclone, information notices will placed at Reception. If the cyclone is likely to impact the Townsville area updated information will be delivered over the Public Address system. Listen to your radio and please heed all warnings given by authorities and hotel staff. If you decide to leave the area make your decision early as travel out of the area may be limited or unable to travel due to the weather and road conditions.
MARINE STINGERS
Marine Stingers are in our tropical waters between October and April. Although most marine stingers cause discomfort the “Box Jellyfish” is considered the most severe. During the stinger season a stinger resistant net is usually in place along the Strand and is easily identified as a White floating enclosure. If a sting occurs DO NOT RUB. POUR LIBERALLY WITH VINEGAR. Be prepared to give respiratory resuscitation and call the ambulance “000”.
POWER FAILURE
In the event of a power failure Aquarius on the Beach has its own diesel-powered generator and power should be restored within minutes. During power failures emergency lighting in the corridors and foyer will automatically switch on.
Frequently Asked Questions
HOW OLD IS THE BUILDING?
Work began building on the then Travelodge Hotel in 1966 and was completed in 1972 becoming Townsville’s tallest building at that time. The Hotel was later bought by the Ambassador motel chain. Despite this hotel trading very well in its own right, the Ambassador group went into receivership around 1990.
McDonald industries, a property developer, bought the site including the Hideaway motel (now redeveloped as the Watermark) and strata titled the complex for sale as individual allotments. In 1993 the hotel was reborn as the “Aquarius On The Beach”.

SOME ROOMS ARE DIFFERENT TO OTHERS
The Aquarius on the Beach is a “Strata-titled” complex, meaning that all units are individually owned. Because of the individual ownership, many rooms may have some unique features installed by the owners that differ from other units. While different in styling, most rooms at the Aquarius on the Beach are 32 SQM except for corner units that are 36SQM. Some rooms have adjoining doors ideal for families and groups.
Several rooms in standard Bayview are currently overdue for renovation. We are working with the owners to get these up to standard as soon as possible.
During your visits with us if you find a particular room that is to more your liking, please let us know on your next visit and we will do our best to meet your request.
